I was chatting with a friend the other day and we got onto the topic of how we started our businesses. Both of us had never really planned to be small business owners, let alone saw ourselves making the things we make now, but now we can’t imagine life any other way.
When I was in kindergarten I told my parents I wanted to be a cowgirl at the rodeo. That didn’t happen, but look at me now! I’m running a hand embroidery business, teaching embroidery workshops, and writing embroidery books. Life is full of amazing and unexpected pathways.

The beautiful thing about living in the pacific northwest is that there is always beautiful mountains and luscious greenery around me. Many of the embroidery kits and patterns from my book How to Embroider Texture and Pattern, were inspired by walks around my neighborhood with my dogs and road trips.

Are you seeing double?
Yes and... no.
One is real and one is really made out of thread.
I saw these sweet pea plants while out walking my dogs and loved their color and shape. I thought they’d be a fun challenge to embroider.
I originally thought they were a cousin of the snapdragon family, and it wasn’t until my phone plant photo finder identified that this is actually a Washington invasive plant species that I was able to figure out what this flower even was. Apparently my Googling skills were not on their game.
I’m excited to add another flower to the 3D collection!

Like double and triple check, because maybe the answer to my problems is embroidery some days!
When you need to take a mindful break, embroidery is a great way to cut ties with technology and enjoy the tactile experience of crafting. And an MCreativeJ embroidery kit includes everything you need to get started.
So why not give it a go and see if embroidery really is the answer?

Can you ever go wrong with flowers? I think not!
These evergreen flowers will be in bloom all year round and never need watering. Simply stitch them up and hang them on your wall or give them as a gift.

Retired kits
I found a few more of these retired landscape kits hiding in my studio! If you want to snag one (for a deal) now is your chance. Because once they’re gone, they’re gone for good this time.
While I don’t love saying goodbye to designs, sometimes I have to make room for new patterns. If I could I’d keep all of them forever, but my studio just isn’t big enough for that.

Never mind eating your fruits and veggies, why not just stitch them? There’s plenty of options with all of the MCreativeJ embroidery kits and stick and stitch patterns.
This summer you can find me a West Seattle Summer Fest, @alkiartfair, @urbancraftuprising summer show, and @flockfiberfestival to pick up all sorts of fruit and veggie stitch options. Plus, plenty more botanical designs too. And if you’re not planning to be in the Seattle area, you can always find me online!

What’s your dream date?
I don’t think my husband would agree, but mine definitely includes some kind of crafting.
This hoop is a giant stitch sampler that I’ve been working on for a while. So far it has over 100 stitches on it. I love trying out different stitches to see their different textures, learn something new, and then also get to know more about them so I can share them with you on my blog.
If you haven’t checked it out, there are over 70 stitch tutorials with videos and step-by-step instructions on my website blog under the Embroidery Stitches section.

I’m finally squeezing in a few ‘for me’ projects!
I’ll be honest, I haven’t been stitching a whole lot since May. I wasn’t feeling inspired and didn’t want to push myself into a project just to stitch something. So instead, I focussed on other parts of my business and let my brain gently noodle about what I’d like to work on.
It took a while, but I think I’ve found a project I’m really excited to put together. This is just one small part of the bigger design.
Stay tuned for more!
