What’s your dream date?
I don’t think my husband would agree, but mine definitely includes some kind of crafting.
This hoop is a giant stitch sampler that I’ve been working on for a while. So far it has over 100 stitches on it. I love trying out different stitches to see their different textures, learn something new, and then also get to know more about them so I can share them with you on my blog.
If you haven’t checked it out, there are over 70 stitch tutorials with videos and step-by-step instructions on my website blog under the Embroidery Stitches section.

I’m finally squeezing in a few ‘for me’ projects!
I’ll be honest, I haven’t been stitching a whole lot since May. I wasn’t feeling inspired and didn’t want to push myself into a project just to stitch something. So instead, I focussed on other parts of my business and let my brain gently noodle about what I’d like to work on.
It took a while, but I think I’ve found a project I’m really excited to put together. This is just one small part of the bigger design.
Stay tuned for more!

Could there be a more perfect summer stitching project? I think not!
Cyanotype Botanicals, Cyanotype Florals, and Cyanotype Forage scream summer with their blue sun drenched designs.
And with these @modernhoopla frames you can finish them perfectly.

Stumpwork and thread painting
For some makers, 3D embroidery is super intimidating, but I’ve really grown to love this exploration of stitching. It’s like the new frontier for me.
What can I do next?
How can I explore this further?
What boundaries can I push with a needle and thread.
And I know you might be thinking ‘florals how groundbreaking!’ but I promise this flower is part of a much larger and very cool vision.
So let’s see what happens.

Sunday stitching. An idea popped into my head on my morning walk with the pups and I couldn’t wait to start stitching it. Of course it was an elaborate design, so it’s going to take forever to actually show you what I’m working on, but for now, here’s me stitching away.

When it comes to crafting and the needle arts, I feel like there’s a lot of propaganda out there. Here’s a few things that you shouldn’t fall for
1- There’s isn’t a right or wrong way to embroider.
Do what works for you! I love teaching classes to help makers learn to basics and beyond, but that doesn’t mean you have to stitch exactly like I do. Every maker is different and you need to figure out how stitching works for you, whether that’s adjusting a stitch, figuring out your own style, or just where you like to craft.
2- The hoop back should look nice.
I was taught this growing up and I think it can lead to a lot of imposter syndrome. The back does not need to look good. Most of the time no one will see it or it can be covered up. Just enjoying stitching and worry about it later.
3- French knots are hard.
French knots get a bad wrap. Pun intended. They can be tricky, but once you get the hang of them they’re actually a lot of fun!
4-Embroidery kits are only for beginners.
Anyone can use an embroidery kit. This is why I create beginner, intermediate, and advanced kits. Sometimes it’s just nice to have everything there with no need to source it all. Other times it’s about learning a specific skill, and others it’s about loving the design. As someone who designs and sells embroidery kits, I have also bought advanced embroidery kits on goldwork because it’s a type of needlework I’m interested in learning too.
What other embroidery propaganda, myths, and untruths do you think should be on this list?
